The Red Wine

The process of making red wine involves extracting the colour and flavour components from the grape skins. Red wine is made from dark grape varieties. The actual colour of the wine can vary from purple, typical of young wines, to red for mature wines, to brown for older red wines. The juice from most purple grapes is actually greenish-white; the red colour comes from anthocyanin pigments (also called anthocyanins) present in the grape skins; the exception is the relatively rare dyer varieties, which actually have red flesh and produce red juice.

White Wine

White wine can be straw-yellow, yellow-green or golden-yellow. Fermentation of uncoloured grape pulp produces white wine. The grapes from which white wine is made are usually green or yellow. Some varieties are well known, such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Riesling. Other white wines are blends of several varieties; Tokay, Sherry and Sauternes are examples of such wines. Dark-skinned grapes can be used to produce white wine if the winemaker is careful not to let the skins stain the must during separation of the juice from the pulp. Pinot noir, for example, is commonly used to produce champagne.

Rosé Wine

A rosé wine incorporates some of the colour from the grape skins, but not enough to qualify as a red wine. It is possibly the oldest known type of wine, as it is the easiest to make by the skin contact method. The pink colour can vary from a pale orange to an almost vivid purple, depending on the varieties used and winemaking techniques. There are three main ways to make rosé wine: skin contact (allowing the dark skins of the grapes to stain the must), saignée (removing the juice from the must at the beginning of fermentation and continuing to ferment the juice separately) and blending (unusual and discouraged in most wine-growing regions).

About the Cellar

A winery is a building or property that produces wine or a business involved in wine production, such as a wine company. Some wine companies own more than one winery. In addition to winemaking equipment, larger wineries may also have warehouses, bottling lines, laboratories and large areas of tanks known as tank farms. The most closest hotel near Cricova Winery is Giowine complex. Here you can experiment and enjoy best wines produced directly from this wine region. With respect,
